 On Saturday, May 17 from noon to 3:00p.m., BAC Folk Arts heads to Arab Bay Ridge to explore the thriving 5th Ave strip that includes Tarboosh Coffee House, Pyramids Jewelry, Diana Clothing, Princess (Amira) Music store, the Islamic Society of America Mosque and the Arab American Association. At certain stops along the way, we’ll be treated to brief performances by neighborhood music and dance artists. There will be plenty of time to explore, learn, eat, and shop! We are charging a nominal $15 fee that will cover food, sweets, coffee, tea, and other samples at various tour stops. Featuring traditional Japanese music and dance, taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, bonsai pruning workshops, Japanese Manga art, tea ceremonies, and workshops for all ages, the 27th annual Sakura Matsuri festival has a new feature this year: the Sakura J-Lounge, featuring some of the country's hippest DJ's spinning Japanese pop sounds.

Free flu shots hosted by Senator John L. Sampson and VNR Home Care Services. The free flu shots will be available to everyone over the age of six (children must be accompanied by a parent).

OCTOBER 30th
Visiting Nurse Regional Health Care System (VNR), one of oldest and most respected home care providers in New York, will offer free flu shots on Tuesday, October 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Brooklyn’s Borough Hall (209 Joralemon Street) in the Community Room. Nurses from VNR will also be on hand to answer questions and provide valuable tips to help New Yorkers avoid the flu this winter.

Brooklyn College will put the ‘Secrets of Coney Island Creek,’ on full view in an exhibit of photographs by photographer and author Charles Denson, scheduled to open at the Brooklyn College Library, on Thursday, October 18, 2007. The exhibit will open with a reception to be held at 6 p.m. in the library’s first-floor Archives and Special Collections Reading Room followed by a lecture given by Mr. Denson. The exhibit will run through November 6, 2007
