Located on the site of the former Dreamland Park in Coney Island (Surf Avenue at West 8th Street), the New York Aquarium features over 8000 exhibits.

Originally founded in 1896, the Aquarium spent its early years at Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. In 1941, Robert Moses proposed building another bridge between lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, and the Aquarium was forced to close. (and of course the bridge was never built...Moses had to settle for the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel).

In 1957, the Aquarium re-opened at its current location at Coney Island.

Open 365 days a year, 10AM to 5PM (5:30PM on weekends), general admission is:
  • Adults $12
  • Children $9
  • Seniors $10
  • Groups $6
  • Children under 2: Free

The Bronx Zoo and New York Aquarium need your help!

Governor Paterson is proposing to eliminate the Aquarium's state funding for FY 2010. This proposal will affect us and 74 other living museums throughout New York that serve a vital role in our state's environmental agenda and pump millions of dollars into our economy. These severe cuts to the Zoos, Botanical Gardens and Aquariums (ZBGA) budget line not only put New York's zoological and botanical resources at risk, but seriously compromise the financial health of the living museums that host 12 million visitors annually, and attract millions of tourism dollars to New York

Sign a petition to let state leaders in Albany know these cuts are not the way to turn the economy around
