While I was not particularly enthusiastic about it (having done several, and hating the results), I'm kind of excited about this one. The camera work looks pretty good, and I'm hoping that it will sound good, too. It's a great show, and worth watching. Still wondering if anyone has ever heard of why the guys that were doing this originally stopped doing it. I made a few further comments within the quoted text. Thanks in advance Chris Warner > The master license works like this. Who ever paid for the original > recording owns the master recording and you nor anyone else can use > that recording for profit or resale. SO if you use Karaoke tracks > you have to get permission from the publisher of the karoke track. If > you use the original artist's material you have to get permission > from them or their record label or who ever paid to do the recording. That answers the question I had been asking, that nobody could answer. So the only master use licenses I would need to obtain would be for any tracks the group uses, unless I record the tracks separately. > > If you rerecord the entire soundtrack or record you or your band > playing live, then you do not owe anyone anything for the master > license (but you still have to pay the song writer royalties). This is another question, are the songwriter royalties paid as a performance license from ASCAP/BMI or the European arm, or is this through the mechanical license? > > Mechanical royalties are governed by law and the rates are set by the > government. The author cannot stop you from re-recording their song > as long as you pay the royalties. So this probably just answered my question from above. The question is who owns the recording I made? My assumption is me but I hate to make one of anyone. > I am not a lawyer so take this as my own understanding. I highly > advise you to seek the advice of a competent music attorney. As soon as I find one I can work with I will. I also believe that having some education before consulting with professionals (legal, tax, accounting, financial etc) to have some basis to ask questions. > > Steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 05:16:36 -0700 From: Mike Glasspool Subject: Re: Comparing Consoles; your opinion please! > be said a gal gets excited about shopping regardless of what she's > shopping > for! ;) I don't think it's only girls that have that feeling :) I'm usually like a kid in a candy store when it comes time to replace gear :). P.S. Looks like we may be getting budget to buy stuff as well - but perhaps not as sexy - we're looking at our cable runs first to see if they need repair before we buy anything.. bah ;) shouldn't repairs be another budget. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 08:25:09 -0400 From: Jim van Bergen Subject: Re: Live From Lincoln Center So Marc, tell us more.... Did they take your board feed? (I can wish, right?) Did they do a full split to a truck with a PBS engineer? Whose truck, whose mix, who did audio post? Do you think Adam had final say on the mix? (When I mixed Piazza's special event for Clear Channel (oop, that's Live Nation! now) annual event down in Miami, Adam was at the console, with LOTS of notes on specific piano, music phrase and vocal rides he wanted (and received). As people who work in theatricalized TV broadcasts, you know Annette & I will be watching!!! I've used the Soundcraft Monitor 2 rented a few times, and my daughter's high school has an MG24/14FX which I've played with a bit (teaching students how to use it, though never really mixing myself). If it was me, I'd go for the Soundcraft, based mainly on the EQ section. The Yamaha is four band but doesn't have swept mids like the Soundcraft does...and the choice of centre frequency and Q doesn't seem overly useful. The Soundcraft has the typical 4-band, 2 swept-mids, fairly musical EQ that most of their consoles use. I personally also think the Soundcraft, being designed as a monitor console rather than multipurpose/FOH is a bit more user friendly in operator terms, but obviously that's down in part to personal taste. Fewer MI houses are allowed to carry the DM line, as it's considered "Pro Audio". This decision was based on the automatic error monitoring policy in effect for the list, and has not been reviewed or otherwise confirmed by a human being. If you receive this message, it means that something is wrong: while you are obviously able to receive mail, your mail system has been regularly reporting that your account did not exist, or that you were otherwise permanently unable to receive mail. Here is some information which may assist you or your local help desk in determining the cause of the problem: - The first error was reported on 2006-06-11. - Since then, a total of 3 delivery errors have been received. - The last reported error was: 5.1.8 553 5.1.8 PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE THIS MESSAGE. While you can of course re-subscribe to the list, it is important for you to report this problem to your mail administrator so that it can be solved. This problem is not specific to the THEATRE-SOUND list, and also affects your private mail. This means that YOU HAVE PROBABLY LOST SOME PRIVATE MAIL AS WELL. Anyone trying to write to you during the same time frame will probably have received the same errors for the same reason. The THEATRE-SOUND list is but one of the many people who may have tried to write to you while your mail system was malfunctioning. DO NOT LET TECHNICAL PEOPLE CONVINCE YOU THAT THIS IS NORMAL. It is never normal for a mail system to claim that a valid, working account does not exist, just as it would not be normal for the post office to return some of your mail with "addressee unknown" when the address was written correctly. It is true that some mail systems are less reliable than others, and your technical people may be doing the best they can with the tools they have. But, ultimately, the level of service that you are receiving is the result of a business decision, and not something due to a universal technical limitation that one can only accept. Reliable mail systems do exist, and it is ultimately up to you to decide whether this level of service is acceptable or not.
